I made simple animations that were reminiscent of battle games like Pokémon. I wanted to capture the characters' quirky personalities through simple movement. This also made it easier to handle the scope of the project.
The highlight of this project for me was working on this transitional cutscene that shows the Dragon (player character) turning into a humanoid knight to greet the Princess. I loved being able to explore these characters through movement.
Since this project was only around 2.5 months of production time, I learned how to sketch out my ideas fast so that they could be implemented into the game as soon as possible. This is how the game's cutscene looked in its first iteration.
I designed most of the characters in the game, however, like many of my projects, I also adapted on my teammate's ideas. I was able to adapt the shape language of their designs into my style, and express their personalities through animation.
My own process started with getting a feel for the visual style through the main characters.
