I was heavily inspired by Chrono Trigger, as well as many other JRPGs in that era. The characters are my OCs that I made in middle school and have been redesigning up until now. This was my attempt at putting a short story to all the ideas floating in my head.
I tried to bring the individual personality of each character through in their animation. Neil is a relaxed yet two-faced leader, Estel is a brooding and skeptical vampire, and Fidelio is a headstrong and practical right-hand. I wanted their unique voices to come through in the writing and to have their expressions and movements reinforce said voices.
I wanted to include all of my favorite staples of classic RPGs, such as character menus, reaction icons, party members following you around, and other such details. I used a pixelated brush and overall added some "crunch" to the art style to achieve a unique look that harkens back to the SNES era.
Sin Infinite is a story I've been developing ever since I was a kid. It's one of those where the designs and touchstones get changed as I grow and become interested in in different things, but the throughline has always been that Estel needs to find his place in the world after being rejected from his own people.
The addition of there being a humans VS vampires conflict is actually pretty new. However, it felt like the perfect direction to go with the story I already had, and I wanted strong visual references to look to when designing these characters and this world.
